Habakkuk 3:17-19

“Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the field yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, YET I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on high places.”
I fail so miserably at this. I often find myself lamenting at the things that are not going well in my life, and rejoicing at the things that are. That’s far from what the author is saying. When we lament, it is before the Lord. When we rejoice, it is to be in the Lord, not in the seemingly favorable circumstances of our lives. We lament with hope. We rejoice with hope. Hope in God, not in ourselves.
