Just because…

29 Mar

I felt like posting some pictures of some of my favorite little Peruvian jungle boys.  (If you’re wondering, yes I do post about other things, but since I’m going to be there in APRIL, I can hardly think of anything else!)

SAULO. Doesn't he look so...jungle?

Beken with a hand-made wooden airplane. The kids all drew names for Christmas, and had to hand-make a gift for whoever they drew. (P.S.-Yes, they all swim in their underwear.)

Adolfo, Domino, Mario. Can you guess which ones are brothers?

Geirlerson and Antonio.

Geirlerson and Antonio. I love this picture because it shows the relationship between the older boys and the younger boys. P.S.--If you ever get down there, don't let Antonio fool you. He's not as cool as he thinks he is.

Bubble Camera

14 Jan

It’s New Year’s Eve.  I am in the jungle.  Some of the boys are performing a dance/theater production for us (the gringos).  I look over at Rodrigo.  He is pretending to be paparazzi, taking pictures of the “superstars” with his camera, which is actually a little bottle of bubbles.  This is a kid whose history is one you wouldn’t believe if I told you.  Yet here he is, restoration in every imaginary click of his camera.  His quirky little personality revealing itself a little more each time I see him.  And I am moved.

Here’s Rodrigo with his new best friend, D.J.  (Click here to read about him in an older post)

I'm off!

26 Dec

This evening (around 6pm) I begin my journey to the Amazon jungle of Peru.  For those of you who don’t know, I’ll be going to a boys’ home for former street kids.  These boys have captured my heart.  I can’t wait to see them again.  We will be teaching a Bible Club while we are there.  I am so excited about this.  If you know me personally, you know that my heart is to teach.  I love teaching anything, and so much more teaching the truths of God.  Imagine the joy in telling these boys who have been abused or abandoned that there is a God who loves them!

Here’s some things to pray for…

1.  Travel safety.  The journey to get there is a long one.  Pray that we arrive safely. Here’s the itinerary…Drive to Atlanta.  Flight from Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale to Lima.  Spend the night in the Lima airport.  Flight from Lima to Iquitos.  Boat from Iquitos to Puerto Alegria.

2.  Pray that God would open the boys’ hearts to see and understand that His Word is a treasure, that He is a treasure.  Also pray for attentiveness, as they  have a very short attention span!

3.  Pray that the truths of the parables we will be teaching would be real in our own hearts as we teach them.

4.  Health.  Of course, we would all like to stay healthy while we are there.  No parasites, amoebas or anything of the like!

I treasure you all!  Thank you for reading my blog and for praying.
